Summer 2027 - IEF - Structures/ Structural Design College Intern in  GAC Savannah

Unique Skills:

The Structural Design Engineer (Department 651) is responsible for developing configurations, laying out initial designs, designing detail parts, assemblies and installations and supporting aircraft programs from initial phase through product type certification. The design engineer also sustains multiple in-production aircraft, investigates fleet issues and customer requests, and works alongside multiple technical peers, including stress analysts, systems design engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers, production floor support personnel and regulatory agents. Knowledge of design configuration, design criteria, including CFR Part 25 regulations, material properties, load paths and industry and Gulfstream processes are examples of the knowledge, tools and techniques needed to design modern aircraft structures and components.

In addition to the core responsibilities of a Structural Design Engineer, this internship will support the design, development, and evaluation of advanced composite aircraft structures and components. Candidates should have academic coursework or project experience involving composite materials, including an understanding of material properties, laminate construction, anisotropic behavior, failure modes, design allowables, and manufacturing methods. Familiarity with composite design considerations such as ply orientation, load transfer, joint design, producibility, and inspection methods is highly desired.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience working within a team environment through engineering design projects, student organizations, research activities, competitions, or other collaborative technical efforts. The ability to communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to group problem-solving activities, and work across multiple engineering disciplines is important. Candidates should be self-motivated learners who are comfortable taking ownership of assignments while collaborating with peers, mentors, and customers to achieve project objectives.
